Apple and China Mobile recently announced that they have reached an agreement that will see the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c and start from China Mobile's 4G and 3G networks in the coming year 2014. Pre-registration is expected to start on December 25, with the phones actually available on 17 January 2014.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said, China has very important market for Apple and our partnership with China Mobile presents us the opportunity to bring the iPhone to the world's largest network of customers. China Mobile says, it has more than 760 million customers. Apple has been in talks with the network since 2011.
According to a recent report by Canalys, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, together accounted for 39 percent of the global smartphone market, Apple ranked fifth in the region in smartphone sales.
Another sign that Apple is trying to expand in China this fall was the announcement that the iPad would be available in the Air on launch day in the country for the first time.
