Alcatel-Lucent and BT have achieved the unbelievable fastest real-world speed fiber upto 1.4Tb / s spectral efficiency of 5.7 bits per second per Hertz in existing core fiber connections.
Telecommunications equipment maker and broadband company conducted field tests within the existing 410km fiber link between the BT Tower in London and BT Adastral Park research campus in Suffolk. The infrastructure was used for a new "flexible network – Flexigrid’ change the natural gap between the channels, which are usually 50Hz. By increasing the channel density approach to reach 42.5 per cent higher data transmission efficiency compared to today's standard network without the installation of additional fiber.
BT said the tests showed that Flexigrid will enhance the company's core network capacity using existing lines, and potentially save the company from having to install additional fiber optic cables, broadband demand is growing - increasing scale bandwidth demanding services such as video streaming and efficiently without any additional cost.
