According to the Land Transport Authority, in the middle of 2014, commuters can tap the country's Wireless @ SG infrastructure in all the North East Line platforms and 12 other MRT stations with high traffic, including City Hall, Dhoby Ghaut, Bishan, Serangoon, and Choa Chu Kang.
LTA called for expanded implementation of the proposals, which include a two-year trial before it decides whether to extend free public Wi - Fi services to other stations. The service will provide access speeds of up to 2Mbps trial are expected to begin in the middle in 2014.
Founded in 2006, the government -funded Wireless @ SG network is currently managed by Singapore's three mobile operators - M1, SingTel and StarHub - as well as the location of Wi - Fi service provider Y5Zone. Plans for the next phase is going to roll out the infrastructure, which includes the SIM - based recognition system, by April 2014 to simplify the login process.
LTA’s aims to improve wireless connectivity, MRT commuters enjoy free net while they wait for their train to arrive.
